consultants. Oversaw the corporation’s global IT architectural planning for
10,000 desktops, special projects, and emerging technology activities. Prepared and administered a $1.5M department
operating budget annually.

and assessed emerging technologies that had potential relevance to educational
market in terms of infrastructure, ecommerce, and delivery of teaching,
learning and assessment tools. Led
team to assess capabilities in R&D lab via working prototypes. Multiple security and access models with
findings disseminated to operations and executive staff in workshops using live
demonstrations.

Assessment
of Microsoft .NET technology, starting with late alpha code through general
release. Converted existed legacy
ecommerce solution to working prototype on new platform verifying enriched
ecatalogue capabilities to manage both hard and soft educational K-12 products,
with enhancements for ebook delivery online, referral site tracking, and back-office
systems integration with ecare.

in AAP working committee for Online Information Exchange (ONIX) data standards
to facilitate compilation and distribution of enriched title information to
existing partners as well as new distribution channels, such as Amazon.com,
over the Internet. Validated use of
ONIX/XML in working prototype at Harcourt working with teams across multiple
divisions.

Enterprise
datamart pilot delivered in 90-days using multiple data sources and business
intelligence tools (Win2000, Sql-Server 2000, Seagate/Crystal, Powerplay), to
provide decision-support for supply-chain processes, such as product
distribution, returns, and inventory costs, on a global basis.

Y2K
Project Director of multi-divisional global effort replacing two proprietary
logistical systems with a single standard purchased package to eliminate Y2K
issues. In time-pressured environment,
administrated $5.5M capital budget, identified package solution, led multiple
concurrent teams for conversion tasks into new client/server environment, in
parallel with consolidation of global fulfillment operations to central site in
Orlando. Recipient of 1999 Harcourt President’s
Award in recognition of effective leadership.

corporate-wide strategies to standardize desktop and network installation
environment, with installation base growing from 3,000 to 10,000 seats, to
reduce costs and facilitate future growth.

Led
multi-divisional global network team for transition to Microsoft NT Server,
including domain system design, hardware/software upgrades, operational and
security procedures. Effort resulted in
full and timely migration, complete security audit compliance, no interruption
of application services, and projected cost avoidance of $10M over 5 years to
the company.

Identified
corporate-wide email strategy utilizing client/server and PKI technology. Led initial pilot migration team with
upgrade of antiquated hardware, software upgrades, and conversions to enhance
corporate communication channels. In
later phase, prepared business case and updated architecture, which identified
$3M in additional savings through consolidation of infrastructure and
administrative services.
