Description

Transportation security has become a key consideration for transportation system designers and engineers since the 9/11 attacks.  Many new, and sometimes unfamiliar, requirements for transportation systems security have been developed.  This three-session series of interactive web seminars is intended to provide engineers with an understanding of security vulnerability assessments and transportation security standards, common transportation security threats and countermeasures, and an overview of current and future R&D in the transportation security field.

The seminars will be held the second Wednesday of each month beginning June 2003.  Each will feature prominent and respected speakers from both the public and private sectors.  There will be opportunities for on-line interaction with the speakers by phone, e-mail and internet chat during the seminar session, as well as electronic bulletin board dialogue for all registrants after each session concludes.

Seminar 1  June 11 2003:  Security Standards for Transportation Systems.  The purpose of this seminar is to familiarize engineers with various aspects of transportation security and how existing and planned standards will affect their future work.

Seminar 2  July 9, 2003:  Threats and Security Design Countermeasures for Transportation Systems.  This seminar will examine common threats to transportation systems and illustrate practical ways that engineers can plan, design and engineer systems counteract those threats.

Seminar 3  August 13, 2003:  Engineering Research & Development for Transportation Security.  This seminar will examine federal R&D efforts in engineering and design that are planned or currently underway to improve transportation security.

Registration is $299 per session for non-members, and is free or discounted for TSC Members in good standing, depending on type of membership.  (All members of the transit community are eligible to join TSC.  Application Forms are available at: http://www.tsconsortium.org/2003ApplicationForm.htm, or contact Jim Kemp, TSC Board Member at CPLNJWK@NJTRANSIT.COM.)
