- We also need to make sure that security for other transportation modes
matches up with port security -- it would make no sense to impose a security

- September 2001
- In late September, the Transportation Secretary, Norman Mineta (a former
GMATS Advisory Board member) requested that the Director, Captain
Christopher McMahon, report to his office to serve as Special Assistant
during the national emergency. The assignment will be for an, as yet,
undetermined amount of time. Among other things, Captain McMahon will be
responsible for helping to coordinate the activities of the “National
Infrastructure Security Committee” (NISC) which was established by the
Secretary in late September. The mission of the NISC is to bring together
transportation industry and DOT leadership in an effort to enhance
intermodal transportation security.
